Album Notes

Bryan Turner is a thoughtful songwriter, a commanding, passionate musician, and a hypnotic performer. Many have called Bryan a natural, both as a composer and a performer who projects true feeling into his performance. Reviewers and audiences constantly repeat one description: Bryan is soulful. A Nashville native, Bryan has pioneered a new genre of sound, Soul Rock, which fuses his compellingly soulful voice with honest, meaningful lyrics and scorching guitar in the vein of The Edge and Jimi Hendrix. Every Bryan Turner show promises and delivers something for everyone – well-crafted originals intermingled with stirring versions of songs you know and love. Since his days fronting a garage band at 16, to shows at the University of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State and David Lipscomb Universities, and countless club gigs in Middle Tennessee, to releasing his first CD, “What You’re Looking For”, in October 2005, Bryan has been driven to perform and expose an ever-growing audience to Soul Rock. Bryan Turner and his power-trio bleed Soul Rock, with pronounced influences from U2, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Marvin Gaye and the Allman Brothers.

"What You're Looking For" comes across as an album by a talented singer/songwriter. Bryan Turner definitely has a nice voice that lands softly on the ears, and he has a good sense of melody, as well. The vocals are smooth with a touch of soul. On the song, "What You're Looking For", the music is grooving and goes well with Turner's voice. The guitar solos on "Crossroads" make this the standout track on the album, and it certainly deserves to be on Lightning 100's local spotlight. Bryan Turner's songwriting comes across as honest. In fact, that's one of Turner's strongest qualities. Throughout the album his voice and lyrics are believable.

- There are only six songs and I was hoping for more. Bryan Turner really knows how to play his instrument; his voice. He reminds me of James Taylor, where his songs are soulful and have a bit of gospel in them.

Bryan Turner has a wonderfully unique voice that's mature and mellow...a modern day recapture of all those days I spent soaking up James Taylor albums in my youth. It's got a bit more bite than a folk record, a tad more soul than an adult contemporary record, but all the passion of a true songwriter project. It's the audio equivalent to 'comfort food'.
