First formed in Oregon in 1976, The Buckhorn Mountain Boys became one of the more popular bluegrass bands in the northwest. The band reorganized in 2002 and is now based out of Nampa Idaho. The Buckhorn Mountain Boys features 4 veteran musicians whose careers have spanned nearly 30 years in various Idaho and Pacific Northwest Bands.
The Buckhorn Mountain Boys sound is centered around the lead vocals of Al Jackson who first formed the original band and who also plays guitar and mandolin with this current line-up of fine musicians. Mike Bond plays banjo and sings tenor harmony lending to the bands "high lonesome sound". Rue Frisbee is well known throughout Idaho as one of the most tasteful bluegrass fiddle players and he also plays guitar with the band. Marv Quinton rounds out this foursome playing bass and singing the baritone harmony which fills the bands powerful and edgy trios.
In May of 2003, the Buckhorn Mountain Boys recorded and released their debut CD independently produced on their own BMB record label. This album titled "Take The Backroad Home" has recieved local radio airplay in Boise Idaho. KFXD Program Director and morning personality, Mitch Pruitt, says "these guys are one of the best, freshest sounds to come along in quite awhile."
The Buckhorn Mountain boys take great pride in calling themselves a traditional bluegrass band while concentrating on three part vocal harmonies and playing their music as it was originally intended to be played.
Take The Backroad Home is a nice blend of bluegrass standards and some more contemporary songs all done in a traditional style.

This is a Superb CD with good variety in song selection. Having a couple of good old farvorites like I'm On My Way Back To The Old Home and Stone Walls and Steel Bars, as well as an original peice, Blow Wyoming Blow, Take the Back Road Home is an excellent bluegrass CD performed by excellent bluegrass musicians.
