SWING ALONG TO THE BIG BAND SOUNDS OF
BUCK AND BB’S BRAND NEW CD
CHICKENS
"Buck and BB's cowboy jazz is as American as the Western saddle and way more comfortable! It's great music for the whole family authentically played and sung from the heart." – Ezra Idlet
(of the Grammy Award nominated duo Trout Fishing in America)
San Diego – Buck Howdy, one of family music’s most acclaimed recording artists, partners with his sidekick BB to release a brand-new collection of tunes that will have the whole family bopping along to jazzy big band sounds.
BB is the rootin’ tootin’-est cowgirl around, and she has lent her bright harmonies to live Buck Howdy concerts for years. Now, BB makes the 15 songs on Chickens fly, sharing lead vocals with Buck on several tunes. The first track, “Hoe Down,” sets the high-energy Western swing style vibe for the album, and peppy tunes like the title track “Chickens” and “Shake It Off” will get every toe tapping. A full horn section (with Buck, himself on trombone!) and multiple layers of sound on every song will impress fans of American roots music. The style might be compared to Asleep at the Wheel or Bob Wills, all the while expressing Buck Howdy’s trademark zany sensibilities and BB’s sassy backtalk. If there hasn’t been enough barn raising by the end of the CD, the surprise bonus track will encourage more spontaneous arm flapping and knee slapping.
Buck Howdy is a real cowboy farmer who has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and the White House and in hundreds of concerts at schools, state fairs and performing arts centers from coast to coast. He’s been described as “the nexus of Roy Rogers, Will Rogers and Mr. Rogers, with a little Shrek thrown in for fun.” His music videos are on regular rotation with Noggin TV. Buck has two other award-winning family CDs, Skidaddle! (MCA Records) and Giddyup (Prairie Dog), both of which have earned him a place in the pantheon of artists creating hip music that appeals across the generations. Buck’s new shows are all with BB, an accomplished vocalist and actress who has appeared in several national television programs and commercials, including an Emmy award-winning CBS-TV movie with June Lockhart. She has been a part of Buck Howdy shows and recordings for a few years, and audiences respond enthusiastically when BB is on stage. Now riding the range side by side, the duo plan a busy performance schedule this fall and winter (see http://www.buckhowdy.com/live-shows.html).

Chickens!
author: Patti Ivory
My twin 3 year old sons and I love the kinda swingy western beat, and they are already singing "Hidy Hidy Hidy Hay, it's time to play" and "Don't let Granny in the door" (which might lead to some awkward moments...but all in good fun) The sneaky humor in the lyrics in "Chickens" is perfect. The vocal harmony between Buck & BB sounds natural and fun in all of the songs! What a great duo! It's been awhile since I've heard a version of "You Are My Sunshine" that sounded so sincere and heart-tugging. My family's shared enjoyment of this music is something I treasure- it is rare to find music that a couple of 40 somethings and two 3 year olds truly enjoy. Thanks for this one!

Chicken!

Chickens a very special CD. When my daughter and I are driving down the road and singing along, we are removed from the hassles of traffic and schedules and feel like we are floating in an enchanted bubble. Chickens warms the soul and lifts the spirits. Thank you Buck & BB for giving my daughter and me these special moments.

Buck Howdy with BB - Chickens
author: Gregory Keer
The new CD from Buck Howdy is as fresh as morning eggs from a flock of chickens and as swingin’ as the kitchen door at dinnertime. Combining rootsy country music with classic jazz, Chickens features the cowboy voice of Buck with his frequent performing sidekick, BB. Like a kid-version of Lyle Lovett’s work, the music and lyrics are fun, funny, and friendly.
Among my favorites on the 15-track (or should I say “tractor” -- I never was good at farm humor) album are “Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens,” with its countrified Duke Ellington vibe; “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda,” a blues-tinged lament about making mistakes; “Can’t Imagine,” a slow toe-tapper about appreciating companionship; and two kickin’ remakes, “I’m My Own Grandpa” and “Yakety Yak.”
While Buck continues his radio project as the host of XM’s “Cow Pie Radio,” he’s never sounded better than he does with BB on this recording. The marriage of fiddles and saxophones comes off quite naturally in their talented hands.
