notes

In a roundabout way, this 15-song release on Motion City Records is a result of a miracle. Tangled in a label dispute, Bucklew's career path was gridlocked. Out of the blue, a fan wrote to her saying, "You don't know me, but when times were tough for me, your music pulled me through. Now that things are tough for you, I wanna help." Turns out this fan had since become a dot.com millionaire. He bought her contract and all of her product, and returned them to Bucklew, with no strings attached -- except for making Bucklew promise that the music will keep flowing.

And it does. "After You," Bucklew's fourth full-length recording, is the album that her fans have been waiting for. A combination of live and studio tracks, Bucklew puts a new spin on some of her most requested songs and also serves up a batch of new tunes. Sometimes stripped down, sometimes dressed up, these tracks form a sound that is undeniably Wendy Bucklew -- that soulful voice, that rocking guitar, and that rare and wry twist of phrase.

"After You" is the culmination of an artist ready to take her music to the next level. But more than that, "After You" is Wendy Bucklew living up to her promise, and then some.

  • We need more music like this !!

After listening to three other Bucklew CD's, "After You" was not a surprise at all. Fantastic and memorable songwriting combined with her unique and beautiful voice leave the listener wondering why some artists are a commercial success and talents like Bucklew's have remained so obscure. 5 stars are not enough, brilliant !!!

  • Not Your Typical Girl Drama

Once again Wendy impresses me with her songwriting and delivery on "After You". She's tender but not sticky sweet. I love "Sideways Smile" and "Dream House" for the balance of rockin' tunes on here. Her sound and style is one that should be heard more on the radio. I say, "Buy it! And all of her releases!" I never get sick of any of them..and want more! Wendy? more, please. :-)

Eveeryone who has heard Wendy, has their favourite Wendy. Some like her rocking with a band, others like her solo, quiet, and reflective. I however, have always loved her improv solo piano. This record has it all. Be sure to catch the hidden track at the end. If you like it, please join me in my request for a full length effort.
