Album Notes

“Chicken in the Snowbank,” the second CD from the Buck Mountain Band, continues in the spirit of the band’s first, featuring lively breakdowns, two-steps, and sweet waltzes, as well as the powerful singing of Larry McPeak, who contributes traditional songs along with originals that sound hauntingly traditional. Amy Boucher frequently joins the group and adds significantly to the mix of tunes and songs here with her high-spirited singing and banjo picking. Since forming in 1999 at the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention, the Buck Mountain Band has become one of Southwest Virginia’s most popular old-time bands, playing regularly at the Applewood Music Park in Cana; the Floyd Country Store; the Fiddle, Banjo, and Dance Club of Dublin; and the Rex Theatre in Galax. The band’s members also serve as resident musicians at the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
