Album Notes

MONSTER PUNK PSYCHEDELIA!! el Jefe's monster-slide psychedelic guitarisms propel this powerful cd of incredibly cool tunes & high-flying tales of nyc slice o'life decadence! http://www.testicle.com/budda.htm "trippy reverb effects, a general spaciness...guitar-driven '70's punk & a loose bass sound bring Budda-Bang! in line with some severely mutant art rock" - Magnet "el Jefe Sativa's sonic slide guitar ranks up there with the best of Hendrix, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine or Astor Piazzolla" - TEST PRESS magazine "....some of the wildest, twistedest, distortedest slide guitar I ever" - Hypno Mag "Sonic Decayed will give you flashbacks of swimming in reverb, of red-eye and cottonmouth, blacklight posters and Hendrix" - US Rocker "Gritty, piercing and often nauseating, the signature slide guitar of el Jefe whoops and screams atop his band's lumpy decadent, druggy rock" - The Music Paper Budda-bio: BUDDA-BANG! Relentless, Psychedelia, Monster-Slide, Distorted Guitar...Attack! New York City's 1992 New Music Seminar presented an intense rush of guitar-driven stimulation to the alternative world of alternative tunes - el Jefe Sativa and his band BUDDA-BANG! August 2000 sees the re-release of the conceptual single and video for "Hairball or Puke?", along with the mind-blowing, 50 minute cd odyssey, SONIC DECAYED - a realization of a state of mind and a statement of realization, a pressure wave of guitariffied sounds for the new millenium and a personification of big apple slice o'life decadence. Led by the outrageous, slide guitar acrobatics of el Jefe (pronounced heff-ay, which means "chief" or "boss" in spanish), BUDDA-BANG! slid onto the NYC underground scene with the song "Hairball or Puke?", a cascading guitar homage to feline regurgitation, and the surprise hit of the '92 New Music Seminar. Originally presented to the NMS as a 5-piece band featuring el Jefe on slide guitar/vocals and Cleveland Christie on guitars, BUDDA-BANG! starred 7-year-old guitar sensation Pepito Maldonado, and his cousins, 12 year-old twin sisters Lucinda and Melinda Snachez on bass and drums, respectively. This turned out to be a ruse on el Jefe's part, smacking of shades of Milli-Vanilli without the dreads. "I knew that the idea of the kids was pretty cool," mused Jefe, "and would generate interest in the band, and in turn, the music. I wanted to get BUDDA-BANG! on the NMS tape, catch some cool bands like Murphy's Law, Butthole Surfers, Prong, check out the pulse of the corporate rocksuckers and asskissers usually associated with the music industry's 'hipper-than-thou-seminar' and eventually put out a 7 inch single and cd. I accomplished that and more, the end justifying the means, so hey!" The first double a-side 7" single from BUDDA-BANG! contains Eric Calvi's french-style remixes of the now-epic "Hairball or Puke?" and the stampeding, elastic guitar sounds of "Beat Plastic." As a special sales incentive, a free sample of fake vomit is included with every 7" package. The full-length cd SONIC DECAYED pulsates with el Jefe's wacky facetiousness and an urgent sense of coping with NYC's temptations, frustrations, and meditations; always pushed on with a relentless guitar offensive. BUDDA-BANG! also released a video for "Hairball or Puke?" which received world-wide praise and continues to be shown on IMNTV and more online outlets. BUDDA-BANG!, according to el Jefe, is for anyone who wants to musically hallucinate with something other than the typical pop fodder, pre-packaged fluff that the major labels guarantee will sell through their narrow-minded network of categorized crap. Budda-Bang!, frying your brain like eggs on drugs.
