Power POP aficionados have known for almost three decades that Buddy Love ROCKS! Mixing Brill Building songcraft and Punk attitude, their blend of guitar and vocal Beatle POP has become (semi) legendary!
Buddy Love formed in 1979 by songwriters Alan Milman and Doug Khazzam after the failure of their punk/new wave outfit(s) Alan Milman Sect/ManKazaM. Enlisting drummer Rich "Starr" Stirrat, bass player Scott Nevin “Killer” Schiller and vocalist Joey Kelly they performed around New York City in 1980.
Their debut single Sheila b/w Party Girl (included here) became an underground sensation, getting airplay on the Vince Scelsa show on the now legendary WNEW-FM in NYC. After Joey's departure in late 1980, Doug took over vocal chores and in 1982 recorded the album Buddy Love which garnered accolades among the DIY/PowerPop/New Wave community but somehow remained relatively unknown.
Now, 27 years later, the original lineup of Doug, Joey, Rich and Scott have reformed and have recorded many of the same songs they performed live in 1980 as well as new songs written by Doug and are again performing in the NYC metropolitan area.

Better than ever

Last October I accidentally found out that Buddy Love had reformed and were playing around Manhattan (right in my own backyard) I saw them perform at a club in Greenwich Village (during IPO NY) and bought their new CD called Now and Then and guess what?!? They have totally recaptured the do-it-yourself-and-make-a-great-record ethic that they had way back in 1983. Their new CD rocks! The songs are great! Their cover of My Little Red Book should be a hit!
