Great stuff. We need more of this kind of album.

There's a mix of great ballads and great rhythm, delivered by a unique voice with solid instrumental backup throughout. This album should be a prominent part of every music-lover's library.

A great album!
author: Doug Morris, Founder, Indie Music Appreciation Group
This is a heck of an album folks! Shelley wrote or co-wrote (mostly with Randy Moore) 16 of the 18 tracks, including all of the ones I like best, except "Overheated" which was written by Terrance Alan & Eddie Evans. Shelley Buffitt, as a singer, as a songwriter, and I expect (although I've never had the privilege of meeting her), as a person, refuses to be stuck with a "label." She's not a "country" artist; she's not a "rock" artist; nor is she "blues", nor "pop", nor "jazz", nor anything else. She is a performer. She does a song as whatever it is. I think she must look for the soul inside the music and take that into her heart while she writes/sings/plays the piece. That's why this album is impossible to stick with a "label". I guess it would be best described as a "Shelley" album or you could just call it "good."
There are some really great tracks on this disc. There are some that are slow & laid back, some that are bluesy, and some that'll rock your teeth and make your feet move! There are even some that are not for the "faint-of-heart" folks, like "Daddy's Little Girl." This song starts out as a real honky-tonk beat toe tapper about 'sitting pretty on daddy's knee..." and ends up with "crossing two lanes of highway to give it up..." "in the back of a Chevy truck, I made it rock." Okay, I think we get the picture. Oh, the fun doesn't stop there my friends. There's the song "May December Romance" about older women getting hot for younger men, & "Ask Me To Dance" with lyrics like "I like to watch your body move and sway, you're a tempting little game that I love to play, why don't you take a chance, not a second glance, and baby, ask me to dance..." the last words of which come out as very sexy whisper/sigh. Oooh yeah! Then there's "Tropical Vacation" which starts off with "My name is Shelley, I'm from Canada..." and goes on to describe a great vacation filled with Jamaican beach, sun, rum and workin' on a tan. (Can I go too, PLEASE!!!)
Among the other songs I really enjoyed on this album, I should give special mention to "Goodbye to Knights",which is another of those songs with a great intro. It's one of the songs going on my Favorite Indie Songs list. Others I really enjoyed are "Wishing I Was Her", "Angel Of Mine", the title song "Beyond This Woman" and "Home Made Happiness" which are done as really fine country ballads with some great piano and guitar work in the background and an almost gospel mood in Shelley's vocals. I also like "Sweet Boy", "Standing In The Wings", another fun song "You're History", and the ballad style "Better Than Friends."
I must also say something about the band(s) which played on this album. There were several combinations due to various factors, but all of the musicians who helped make this album should be very proud of their contributions, because it's some great music! All in all, I think that this is a wonderful album and would be a good addition to the collection of just about any fan of fine music.

Shelley Buffitt is splendid singer!
author: Laura Turner Lynch
SHELLEY BUFFITT – BEYOND THIS WOMAN: Shelley Buffitt is a singer and composer. Shelley pens songs that have been recorded by a variety of artists in different genres. Buffitt's own songs are a blend of country, folk, gospel, pop and rock. She is a big fan of Loretta Lynn, yet Shelly's country-based music is animated and diverse. Buffitt is an incredible, soulful vocalist. Shelley also has an impressive list of talented guest players on her CD who handle guitars, bass, piano drums, sax, cello, banjo, fiddle, steel, harmonica and harmonizing vocals. Randy Moore is responsible for the crisp, clean production of the CD. Buffitt's eighteen-track collection covers a wide range of sounds and styles. She writes visual lyrics about her own life experiences as well as general observations. The CD opens with 'Ask Me To Dance' with its rocking guitars and an up-tempo beat. Sassy piano parts are interspersed with Shelly's vocals that are both sweet yet sultry. 'Home Made Happiness' and 'Daddy's Little Girl' are strong examples of Shelley's story telling. Both songs feature great instrumentation including soaring guitar leads. Buffitt's vocals climb and drop with control and drama. 'Woman of Many Colors' has vivid lyrics blending with subtle instrumentation as Buffitt's vibrant vocals carry the tune. Beyond This Woman is an ambitious collection of assorted songs that each have something special to offer and Shelley Buffitt is splendid singer!
