Since 1989 the solorezital on altosaxophone is a stronghold of Hermann Bühler's activities as a musician and composer. Bühler refers to the tradition of Jazz and improvised music as it is played by Steve Lacy, Antony Braxton or Evan Parker.
In his solorezital Bühler combines improvisations and citations of his own compositions. As a material there can be found melodic features, multiphonics and minimalistic sounds that are made by circular breathing. There are emerging open and strong moods while Hermann Bühler starts to explore the sound features of the alto. The music contains breath-taking fireworks as well as removed blooming gardens.
âJazz or not Jazz - that could be the question. You don't need an answer, being exposed to so much expressivity and beauty."
Neue Zürcher Zeitung 1995
âIn his recital Bühler played simple melodic forms that were treated in a sensitiv and transparent way. Then he developed the melodies into polytonal patterns. Bühler's playing contains in the same time simplicity and virtuosity. This combination brings a cultivated, unpretentious air to a superb musical experience."
Schaffhauser Anzeiger 1995
