ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“with an acoustic guitar and a trailer load of quality songs those who stop to listen are rewarded with a style and charisma not normally associated with most in his genre.” - THE MID-ULSTER MAIL.

John Gribbin, a 23 year old from County Derry, Northern Ireland is ‘Building Pictures.’ John has been writing and performing music since he was 18, and the alias of Building Pictures has allowed for a range of different styles of music from folk to indie to dance and beyond.

2008 was a great year for John.

The Northern Ireland Music Industry Commission (NIMIC) selected John to be part of a team of songwriters placed in a cottage for the weekend to write music together under the guidance of established songwriters like Iain Archer (Snow Patrol co-writer) and Eleanor McEvoy (a co-writer of the best selling album in Irelands history).

One of John’s songs ‘this corner of the room’, was chosen by a London television production company for the soundtrack of a new teen series called ‘Aislings Diary’. The series was broadcast in autumn of 2008 at a prime time slot on RTE1 television station.

The same song has within recent weeks been commissioned for the sound track of a new television show called ‘Flat Mates’ which will be aired early this year on RTP, the country’s leading public broadcast channel

John was chosen to perform at the Glasgowbury music festival, the premier festival for Northern Irish talent, which this year was headlined by Ash.

2009 has seen two songs of Johns, "I'm Serious" and "The Good Will Out", used on the soundtrack of an online series by Newsweek.com entitled 'The District,' which parodies Obama's first 100 days as U.S president. Check out episode 8 on youtube!

As a member of his brother’s musical alter ego ‘Joe Echo’, where he plays lead guitar and provides backing vocals, 2009 has seen John recently support The Script on their Irish tour and James Morrison in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast in May 2009.

Just recently John has been given the opportunity to provide backing vocals on the soundtrack of film ‘Heartless’ which is due for release in 2009 starring Jim Sturgess (who recently played the lead role in hit film ‘21’).

Currently John is recording his debut album in his home studio. He hopes to perform, record, and mix the whole album himself as he has done with the huge majority of his material that he has recorded to date.

Everybody likes Like Minded People
Like Minded People is the first commercial collection of indie music from a singer/songwriter whose vocal style nests halfway between Paul Simon and Tal Bachman. The primarily alternative sound is sonic therapy, from the cool yet chipper For the Meantime, through the dynamic Hidden Agenda Types (if you don't get up and dance, you'll wish you had), and rounding off with the mild acoustic It Slows Down. Conversational lyrics paired with catchy rhythms are balanced by no-frills instrumentation to build a series of pictures you relate to, and want to revisit again and again. Look forward to the Building Pictures debut album: we can expect one awesome ride when Mr. Gribbin lets loose!
