Album Notes

The Carols contained in this work are from "The New Oxford Book of Carols". It is a 1992 update to the original "Oxford Book of Carols" that was published in 1928. The Word "Carol" has many definitions, for our purpose a Carol must be: narrative, celebratory, simple and contemplative.

The Carols contained in "Carols Vol 1" are in chronological order starting in the Middle Ages and ending today with my own composition, the musical allegory, "The Last Snowflake". All are in the spirit of Christmas.

Attempts were made to simulate early musical instruments and to adhere to period musical forms and performance standards, however, as a composer I found it hard to resist adding my own interpretation to many of these pieces.

I will be Blogging about each track on this CD starting November 1st 2009. I'll discuss the history of the music and my thought process in developing the arrangement. half-life59.blogspot.com also www.woodlandcreekmusic.webs.com

Enjoy!
