Cleveland's National Poetry Slam Team - 3rd place -1997
Slam Poet * Actress * MC * Writer * Artist * Copywriter *Stage Manager
"Lyrics for the Soul" is a project that came to exist
through ministering to young people at my church. The Vacation Bible School leaders invited poets, storytellers, singers and MC's to utilize the scripture and bible school themes in our performances. The parents were amazed at how fast their child memorized scripture and other bible teachings after listening to my raps. I encouraged the young people in my family to write poetry for the CD because as a child I also wrote and used poetry as a cleansing and form of expression.
Theresa A. Burrage is a performance poet, actress, mc, writer and artist. She has appeared in a number of stage plays and readings including Karamu House's "Raisin", East Cleveland Theatre's "Tamborines to Glory", Tri-C's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone", Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's "Footloose", Renee Jones Empowerment Center's "Courtroom Drama", Chicago's ETA theatre stage reading "Waiting Room", and Chicago's DueEast theatre reading "Bee". She staged managed her first theatre project, Ossie Davis's "Purlie Victorious"
She's worked as an extra on ER and in the feature film "Derailed" starring Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen. Theresa appeared on a WVIZ "Applause" segment for performance poetry and was a member of Cleveland's National Poetry Slam Team. Her copywiting credits include JoAnn Stores, Parmatown Mall and a commercial for NFL player Dorsey Levens in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of America and Papa John's Pizza.
Theresa has studied acting at the Cleveland Playhouse and Karamu House. She also studied art and creative writing at Lancaster University in Lancaster, England.
REVIEWS
"Lyrics for the Soul is a phenomenal project. The album displays the many gifts that Theresa has been blessed with, Rap, Song, Writing, Poetry and Performance. Theresa keeps it real by giving all of the glory to Jesus Christ. This piece is so enjoyable, you will want one to keep in your car, at home, and at work, and you might buy a couple to give to friends. I find myself rocking to the beat and meditating on the word of God while singing her songs in my head. This was a great investment for me --a quality product, quality work and an excellent message."

I could understand all the lyrics!
author: Torry Cummings
This young lady is talented. I enjoyed the beats as well as the lyrics which were biblical with a nice flow to them. She is holding it down for Christian, female emcees.

"I love it Theresa. I listen to it all the time."
author: Vyta Copeland
LYRICS FOR THE SOUL is a great CD. I have recommended the CD to sooooo many people. I am not a fan of rap music of any kind; but when I listened to these songs they made me want to sing along with them. I know one reason was because of the articulation used. I understood every word spoken which allowed me to truly listen to the message and not just the beat (although the beats were kickin'). Great JOB! May God continue to bless all He has your hands to do for Him.
