Gretchen Busam brings her life (and sometimes the lives of others) to song.
This veteran of Detroit-area stages has written close to one hundred songs for voice and acoustic guitar over the past six years.
Her tales of self-discovery, survival, and the joy of living are set to intricate vocal melodies accompanied by acoustic guitar.
This award-winning singer is no stranger to the power of the voice. In one breath she can lead her audience through an emotional roller-coaster, from a raging roar to a pianissimo specially designed to draw forth tears.
"THIS is What I Look Like" was recorded entirely live in front of an audience at xhedos Cafe in Ferndale, Michigan. Ms.Busam is joined on the album by conga-player Jeff Carlson.
Busam's musical influences include (but are not limited to) Indigo Girls, Billie Holiday, Old and in the Way, and Bob Marley.
Ms.Busam is currently an Oakland University student for Voice Performance.
She is the 2000 recipient of the University's Award for Distinguished Musicianship.
