Album Notes

Tha New York Times calls Buskin & Batteau "the most musically sophisticated act in folk," the Washington Post calls them "irresistible-- sensual pop, folkie grit, and killer wit," the Boston Globe calls it "acoustic heaven," and the Amazing Christine Lavin says they have "the best legs in folk music." What's not to like? They're singer-songwriter-soloists David Buskin (piano, guitar) and Robin Batteau (electric and acoustic violin), they've played everywhere from London streetcorners to Carnegie Hall, shared Grammy, Emmy, Clio, and Gold Record Awards and an Oscar nod, jammed with YoYo Ma, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, and Benny Goodman, written charity songs for World Hunger Year, Save the Whales, Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and Bill Clinton's '92 campaign, money songs for Paula Abdul, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Anne Murray, and Judy Collins, played with amazing folkies from Tom Rush to Peter, Paul and Mary, written skits and songs for Alec Baldwin, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Whoopi Goldberg for charity shows, modeled for Avedon, even danced with Anne Reinking. You'd think they'd be tired now, but no, they made this new record and they're wicked psyched. It's freaking awesome. Totally.

REVIEWS

Not a Home Run, but a stand-up triple.
author: Bob Steinwachs
I have been a 30+ year fan of David Buskin, and have every LP and CD that he has issued, solo and with Robin, Pierce Arrow and Modern Man. I consider him to be one of the most brilliant and talented musicians of our time. Some of his best work was done with Robin, decades ago. Their live shows were wonderful. This latest CD is not up to the standard that they set back then. I did not like the remake of "Warm", a truly great song that lost its soul in this bouncy, elevator rendition. It is a very good CD, but there are no standouts when compared to their previous body of work. On second thought, "Just a Girl" and "Red Shoes" are keepers. I was thrilled to see a new release, but I expected better. Despite that, it is still superior to most of the music being issued today. I am happy to see them back together, and hope that a concert tour is in the making.

They're Back . . .
author: Saul P. Morgenstern
. . . with a vengeance. Buskin & Batteau, after years of separation, have crafted a beautiful disk in Red Shoes and Golden Hearts. The new songs are a reaffirmation of how well these two work together and a reminder that there are some people out there who can craft tight songs and tell great stories with music. And the revisit of Warm is truly lovely. Please, sirs, may we have some more?
