buttonjaw is comprised of Scott Macdonald (vocals, guitar, keys), Jake Smith (guitar), Sam Adams (bass, vocals) and Dan Rosen (drums). The band was formed in May of 2010 when Scott set his sights on finding other like-minded musicians to help him record a CD of original music that would benefit survivors of human trafficking.
Scott's journey began much earlier in another part of the world - West Africa. In 2009, Scott was invited to participate in a project that would investigate and document cases of human trafficking in a remote area of Ghana, West Africa. During his 3 weeks in Ghana, the team was fortunate to rescue seven children from debt bondage and safely secure shelter for them in Kete Krachi and Tema.
After Scott returned from Ghana, he set out to bring awareness of this issue to his hometown of Portland, Oregon. As a musician and songwriter, Scott knew that in order to broadcast this issue to a greater audience he needed to use the medium of music to do it. It was then when he began crafting the songs that would later find their way onto this record. In partnership with City of Refuge Ghana, the band will be donating 100% of the sales from their first 1,000 CDs and digital downloads to help build a safe house for children rescued from trafficking in Ghana, West Africa. We hope you enjoy the music and will partner with us to help make slavery history.
