When you jump out of an airplane and your 'chute doesn't open you might as well hit the ground head first all psyched up. Coffee and cigarettes. That's BUTZ.
BUTZ consists of a burning horn section, keyboard bass, drums and vocals. Think Gary Neuman, medicated Iggy Pop, Lounge Lizards... Immediate, direct, blistering.
BUTZ is Jeffrey Morris jamming Cobra with John Zorn while Brendan Burke roadies for Skid Marks, the drummer for Felafel Mafia at a CBGB's matinee back in '91. BUTZ is Jesse Selengut kicking out the grades at NYU Masters Program composing a 10 piece Jazz Orchestra. 1994, BUTZ meets in the streets = two year run at the Knitting Factory's AlterKnit Space. BUTZ completes three full length CD's: Tranzfarmer, BUTZ TV, and BUTZ. Eventually Jeff plays all the way through his guitar = gets keyboards and samplers.
Recently signed to Brooklyn based label Home Style Cooking - home of avant-rapper Mike Ladd, BUTZ has completed their new album entitled “NYC”. This album has been licensed in the UK by Real Time and will be released February 10th. Real Time has brokered deals for such labels as Sub Pop, SST, Luaka Bop, and Ninja Tune. This spring “NYC” will be released in the USA on Home Style Cooking.

The music is amazing and flows seamlessly. It totally blew my mind.
author: John Ruby
After listening to this album, I was speechless. The best way I can describe it is to say that instead of being at the window watching people inside at the party dancing like wild fools, you're right in there with them. You are the wild fool. The music flows in and out of each song seamlessly, taking you along with it on its amazing trip. The music is so entrancing that it causes to go to another place throughout the course of the album, only to return afterwards wishing that you could have stayed in that place just a little bit longer. In other words, this album totally blew my mind. I haven't heard anything this good in quite some time. I think everybody should have this album. What kind of music do they play? They play their own kind of music. That's the best I can say. They play really good music. You'll have to get the album to find out more.
