notes

The latest CD from BuzzUniverse, birdfishtree, is currently Number Four on the Jambands.com national radio charts, right behind Keller Williams & moe!

An original eclectic blend of rock, jazz, latin & world grooves. BuzzUniverse features smoking horns and a rock-solid rythm section. Since 2000, the band has been performing and tearing up clubs and large festivals throughout the northeast and has released two captivating studio albums. Described by jambands.com as "addictive & hip-grinding," BuzzUniverse has enlightened loyal fans with brilliantly crafted songs, incredible vocal harmonies and ferocious live energy. Natives of Elizabeth New Jersey, BuzzUniverse aims to spread their unique sound and positive vibe far and wide!

More exploratory than a pop band but not quite a jamband, BuzzUniverse has demonstrated a unique approach in getting their music heard. They took a 'play all day to whoever is passing' gig at New York's Chelsea Piers for the past two summers; they've financed their own free performances in New York City Parks; they've even managed to get two mentions in the New York Post's infamous Page Six gossip column. In 2007, BuzzUniverse were also invited into the prestigious "Leeway's Homegrown Music Network", for CD distribution, joining the ranks of a select group of other great bands like Umphreys McGhee, Garaj Mahal, The Slip & Yonder Mountain String Band, among others.

I love this album. I've seen them at a few shows in NYC so I bought the CD, and I can't stop listening to it. (I lost the CD package so forgive me if I use track numbers and not song names.) The female backing vocals on track 2 and 12 really add a nice flair. "Going Up the Mountain", track 8 is superb, the rhythms and melodies are really infectious, I can never get them out of my head, I find myself humming them all day. Track 9 has a real dark, funky beat, amazing lyrics, possibly my favorite song on the album. It's hard to say anythig negative about the album, it's one of those where you like every song, whereas alot of albums nowadays have 3 or 4 songs that you can't understand how they made the album. None of that is present here, I want to listen to it in its' entirety every time I put it on. That said, my favorites are tracks 2,4,8,9,12 and 14. Listen to these to get a good feel of what Buzz Universe is all about. Highly recommended!
