Album Notes

Bram Wijnands.

In 1991, Bram Wijnands graduated from the Hilversum Conservatory in the Netherlands, the largest school of Jazz in Europe. He is one of the few that has dedicated a lifetime to Stride Piano, inspired by Fats Waller’s performance in ‘Stormy Weather’.
Bobby Watson once said: “Whenever he plays, people start clapping and having a wonderful time”.

As part of ‘The New Red Onion Jazz Babies’, a traditional Jazz band in Kansas City,
Bram toured the U.S while he formed six-piece ensemble that eventually became a seven-piece called
‘The Majestic Seven’ for which he composes and arranges in an authentic 40’s swing style.
In 1998, Bram Wijnands performed in Carnegie Hall where his rendition of ‘Dinah’ received many compliments.

Currently he is involved with the UMKC Conservatory of Music headed by Bobby Watson teaching Jazz-piano. Lately this pianist performed with such luminaries as Hal Melia, Bob Kindred, Marilyn Maye, Bobby Watson, Jimmy Slide, Warren Vache, Jon Hendricks, Duke’s Boys, James Carter and the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. In September of 2005 Bram Wijnands’ talent and arrangements were featured alongside Bobby Watson at Jazz At Lincoln Center performing Kansas City Jazz.
With all this and more going on, Bram still works on his stride skills and it shows. The audience is pleasantly entertained and good times are to be had when he performs.
