Bluesman Willie Phillips- Born November 10, 1938 in Hawkinsville, Ga.-son of a "sharecropper".
In the early years of his life, Bluesman Willie Phillips was picken' cotton and singin' the blues, a natural born bluesman. He also began to sing in different churches, and continued that trend when he relocated to New Jersey.
If you ask him, he'd say " I'm not your average bluesman. I'm a little unorthodox. I like happy, energetitic blues. It's gotta be a little raggedy, definitely rockin' and then sometimes toss in a little gospel flavor." Bluesman said even if he tries to play like someone else, it still comes out like him.
If you stroll in to any venue where Willie is performing, you'll here this "Georgia Boy" singin' and screamin' the blues. His searing guitar solos are interestingly melodic, unique, and delivered with great intensity.
This legendary bluesman has performed on shows with many different artists, including, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Clarence Clemons, Pine Top Perkins, Johhny Clyde Copeland,Bobby Blue Bland, Sonny Rhodes and Etta James.
Bluesman has performed at many clubs and festivals throughout the US and Canada including The Philadelphia River Blues Festival, The Monterey Jazz Festival, Marin County Blues Festival,Manny's Carwash (N.Y.),Garden State Fair,House Of Blues(Boston), Mama Roses(Chicago), Muddy Waters(New Orleans), Blues Ship(Tampa),B.B. King Club(Memphis) and Blind Willie's(Atlanta),Lou' Fisherman's Wharf (San Francisco), Eli's Mile High Club, (Oakland) Hotel California (Van Couver).
Willie has several albums out. His first tittled "Hot Blooded Man". He gained national fame in the 90's with a CD tittled "Fix My Rooster" and a single tittled "Come Shag With Me". Other popular CD's released since are tittled "I Love My Big Fat Mama","The Blues Was Born In the USA", "Homesick Blues", and "Too Many Hungry Mouths Too Feed".
His current release "Sexy Butt Raggdy Blues" is a compilation of some new originals and re-recordings of some old favorites.
