Burning Silver
author: Craig Huegel
Although released more than a decade ago now, Jane Byaela's CD, Burning Siver, is a timeless masterpiece. It should be in everyone's music collection and, if it was, it would be in play somewhere every second for decades to come. From the opening track, Shattered Light, a song that explores an imperfect relationship from a very personal and savvy viewpoint, Jane establishes both a mood and a clear statement of where the rest of her music will lead the listener. Jane is not a singer/songwriter, but a poet momentarily captured within the genre. Her lyrics are both intelligent and mature, but its her voice that binds the words together and creates the ethereal quality of her music that touches you like a gentle embrace. The world is comprised of a great many talented singer/songwriters, but none of them are Jane. While all of her many admirers, such as myself, patiently wait for her next release, we trust that in the meantime our rolls will swell with those of you who have yet to give her music a listen. If you are one of those, choose a quiet time when you can really listen. This is not a background piece of music to take up space while you are entertaining guests or preoccupied with other things. This is a work that requires your attention. Take the time and let it work its magic through you. If you do, my belief is that Jane Byaela will be the person you turn to when you have a quiet moment and wish to escape the frenetic aspects of life that have become all too common.
