The Café Con Pan Latin Jazz Band was put together on July of 2005 as a result of musicians getting together for a last minute gig. That day the musicians that Rick Rodriguez hand picked to do the concert exceeded all of his expectations. The time had arrived for Rick to start his own band, and so was born, The Café con Pan (Coffee and Bread) Latin Jazz Band. For Years this Philadelphia born percussionist had made his rounds playing the cuchifrito circuit (local gigs), various cities throughout the US., including the Island of Puerto Rico. Rick has played with many known groups such as, The Sid Miller Band, Siembra, The Philly Stars, Orq. Yare, Orq. La Opinion, just to name a few. Rick has also shared the stage with piano great, Isidro Infante, Lou Rawls, the late Phillis Hyman, Nona Hendryx, Puchi Colon and the Iron Horse Band. The Café Con Pan Band is a Latin Jazz Band with its musical roots stemming from the US, the Carribean and Africa. Rick brings together an array of talented musicians such as the multi-talented Mike Colon, who is the bands bassist, arranger and musical director. On piano, the man with the magic hands Fred Martin. On congas, “the professor”, Roberto Morales. On timbales, the “legendary”, Teddy Panama, Jr. On tenor sax, the smooth sounds of Bill Murry Jr. On trumpet, Ralph Di Silvestro, and last but not least, Carlito Carasquillo on trombone. The Café Con Pan Latin Jazz Band is truly an all-star band loaded with some of the most talented Salsa/Latin Jazz musicians form the tri-state area.
