Part Joni Mitchell, part Jim Morrison, part Tori Amos, part Grace Slick, and part PJ Harvey.
Propelled by her powerful, versatile voice and creative guitar style, Ripley's songs explore life from her unique perspective.
"she draws a fine line between sex and granola." -caribou coffee
Equipped with a voice that is both supple and brazen, Chicago singer-songwriter Ripley Caine pours on the emotion and whips up a dreamy, swirling landscape in her new CD, "Thrift Store Sweater".
Passionate delivery combines with refreshing directness to make "Thrift Store Sweater" a strong, expressive affair.
Words cannot adequately express Ripley's curious method for making the ordinary details of life grow into a hallucinogenic flashback of feelings.
Relentless conviction and an unswerving determination make "Thrift Store Sweater" a disc of deeply felt stories and poignant reflections, but it is the tight playing and hypnotic melodies that drive it home.

Caine and her band come off like the Cowboy Junkies or 10,000 Maniacs in their late-eighties' college radio sweetheart heydays. The second half of the record offers a more complex blend as jazzier, ethereal arrangements are explored on Nine Out Of Nine, Ant In The Rain and especially on the layered, Jeff Buckley-ish Pack Rat, with its lilting strumming and vocal excursions.
