This girl deserves a major label record deal!

For the past couple of months i've been playing this CD more than any other. Even before i purchased it on this website, i ran the sound bites ragged on a daily basis. No small feat considering the size of my CD and mp3 collection and the fact that i'm really a rocker at heart. In order for me to be persuaded to buy anything else the release in question needs to be exceptional, preferably striking a chord with me on some deeper level. Caitlin Jane's maiden effort (which sounds remarkably effortless) meets this criterion with room to spare. Without a doubt she is one of the most gifted female newcomers in the gospel scene, vocally on a par with acclaimed CCM artists like Rachael Lampa, Jaci Velasquez, Nichole Nordeman and Natalie Grant. (I'm even tempted to say she shows as much promise as a young Amy Grant, Christine Dente, Margaret Becker, Kathy Troccoli or Susan Ashton, but let's wait and see...) One for the road before i quit the name dropping: Anyone just starting out who is able to invest her songs with a pristine blend of finesse and emotional intensity reminiscent of Trisha Yearwood (who wrote the book on it imho) is clearly going places. As for her skills as a composer: The only way i could have been more impressed with her songwriting is if she had opted for a bit more variety. I am confident that had she chosen to include a few up-tempo songs, they would have been equally engaging as the six tracks on offer. As it is, we're left with nearly 25 minutes worth of stellar piano-based mood music with not a note out of place, showing a maturity belieing Caitlin's age and experience. These tunes would be perfect for one looking to unwind, were it not for the distinct possibility that you'll give yourself carpal tunnel syndrome hitting that repeat button. 'Ashes Into Beauty' is soothing, captivating and passionate at the same time; too bad the joyride's over far too soon. An excellent production job as well. Sign me up for whatever's coming next...
PS: If you dig this (and i'm sure you will), you may wanna check out 'Finally I Fly' by Stacy Dumas, also on CDBaby.
