Calamine is goodness, simple and eloquent.
author: Hilary
it's short, sweet, and always to the point. but as direct as everything may be, it's as eloquent as you can push a girl's vocals to, as sweet as electric guitars can be sweetened. 8 thumbs up out of 10.

A Little NC Goes a Long Way
author: Elizabeth Shelton
My vote here goes for the tune, "Repulsion."
It has that "Adventures of Pete and Pete" pop sound
that I'm a total sucker for, any day of any week.
Basically, nice, mellow, indie pop by the group whom you may
now recognize as the performers of Cartoon Network's "Sealab
2021" theme song. While Calamine is billed primarily as the
brainchild of founders Julie Stepanek and Dan Crane--and
no doubt the drummer, Dave Jargowsky, brings his own
influences to the group--let it not go without notice
that none other than Jack Campbell fills in the bass
for this effort. Jack Campbell you will know as the
bassist and primary writer for the ska-ish, funkster,
punkster band of the early 90's, Johnny Quest; he provides
bass, as well as accordion, for the solo effort of George
Huntley (a guitarist with legendary pop rockers, the
Connells), Brain Junk (1996); and Campbell has also done a
tour of duty with the indie-pop/folk/country/rockabilly
group, the Two Dollar Pistols (@1997). There is no question that
the influence of the North Carolina indie scene is present
on this CD. Hearing is believing.
