Calico and the Off-Brand Band formed in 2007 when Fawn Larson and Rebecca Richard realized how well their original music blended. Listeners often remark that the girls sound like sisters, as their voices complement each other in harmonies on every song. The album was recorded at Delta Rider Studios in southwest Louisiana.
As one fan said, "Each of Calico’s performances is all-encompassing and trance-like, allowing the audience to drift in and out of another’s stories that sometimes reflect a bit of their own story." People have also called their music introspective and nostalgic. Their songs combine influences from Cajun, bluegrass, Celtic, and jazz music, as well as the more modern indie genre.
