Album Notes

The band Caligator got its name from taking the best of southern rock guitar and blending in a nice California cool jazz fusion, mix that with a northern California blues feel and you got Caligator. The mix is something special! People say its a Joe Satriani meets Allman Brothers kind of groove. Three cuts feature vocals, Then its guitars swinging in a nice mix of jazz rock fusion with a southern edge. The songs are all up tempo and great driving tunes, with ripp'in guitar tones. The band really tried to come up with our own type of sound, but keeping in mind the types of music we all love. Caligator - soulful, tasty, great guitar playing in a nice mix of jazzy southern swing.

Corky Newman - guitars & vocals & Percussion
Bill McCloskey - Bass
Bill Young - Drums
Tim Morse - Keys

Guests:
Laura Boosalis - vocals on "Fool for you" & "Chet".
Chesta Lavetti - Rap on "Chet".

What a relief for the ears! A band with real musicians who know how to write interesting songs and play them well. A mix where you can hear all of the players doing their thing. Great tone from every instrument. Their sound is a mixture of Texas blues, southern rock, jazz-fusion (think 1970s Jeff Beck), swing, and straight forward rock. These guys can play, but it’s not a “watch what I can do on guitar” affair. It is collection of great songs that have some jaw dropping guitar, bass, and keyboard playing in them. The egos of the players is subservient to the overall sound of finely crafted songs. Most of the songs of instrumentals. Vocals are used to good effect on the blues and rap-style numbers they appear on. So many albums with virtuosos are trite or self-indulgent, but this one has enough diversity and is such a pleasure to listen to that it hard to pull out of the CD player.
