Album Notes

"Snapper" is the second offering from the band Caligator and it's a lot more of a good thing: awesome guitar playing in a nice fusion of rock, jazz, and Corky Newman's compositional originality. His long-time friend, bassist Bill McCloskey (returning from the first CD) joins Corky Newman who's providing all the guitar & lead vocals . Added to Caligator's line-up now are world-class drummer Rich Zeller & keyboard wizard Lenny La Rue.

"Snapper" is one hell of a "guitar CD" but it brings so much more to the table: fantastic guitar tones & feel, professional recording, excellent vocals and excellent playing all around.

I have both Caligator Cd's and spin them all the time. I also went to a small club in Roseville to see the band live. Oh my god they tore it up, I really thought they would be the next big band to break out of the scene. Good luck to all the boys in the future, but BIG MISTAKE for not staying together...this music was very special to alot of people and it moved me beyond words.

Don't really care about players or riffs, its the music & sound.

I am not a player and don't buy just for a superstar player. I buy for the songs & the sound production quality of the CD. These songs moved me to a point where I was in such a great mood I forgot the LA traffic I was in. Its just a great mix of Jazzy vintage rock with wonderful tones. Nothing was harsh or negative to speak of. I know people will buy this for the great players on the CD, but for me it was all about the feeling of the music itself. I listened to this CD for two weeks before I wrote a review and I hope I can convey the feelings I have towards this batch of tunes. Its like taking a bath in clean freash water, and washing off all the crap of the day music you have to endure everyday. I love this CD.

I still get calls about this CD.

Creating Snapper was like giving birth to a 30 lb. baby: rewarding if a bit painful. The only reason I didn't give this CD 5 stars is because it was so rushed during the single keyboard recording session: 6 hours on one day, monophonic, no overdubs, no effects, and one cramped keyboard in the corner of a small bedroom. Many of the takes are completely 'live' and 'first passes', some of which I deeply regret. Yet, this CD captured something special, one of those moments in time that a musician dreams about living thru forever. I wish Caligator (in whatever formation it remains) the best in the future.
