The Foster Factor - January 2006
By BBC Radio Suffolk’s Stephen Foster
In true Foster Factor tradition Drivetime presenter Stephen Foster begins the year by revealing his top albums of 2005
MY TOP FIVE ALBUMS BY LOCAL ACTS
1. CAMEL FOOT RAIDERS - “LAZY DAYS”
Something of a local super group fronted by two of the most distinctive singers this side of Tom Waits - Martin Pender and Toni Vines. As I said back in May 2005 this stands alongside Toni’s best work with The Mean Red Spiders although it’s a far cry from the 12 bar shuffles that helped make that band so popular. The Camel Foot Raiders turn their hands to country rock, reggae and rock’n’roll and hats off to Steve Mann of Backwater Records and Pat at Gemini for bottling their live sound in the studio.

thanks c.d baby for selling our c.d. i am the singer in question on this album. firstly many thanks to all who took the time and effort to buy/burn,listen and review our c.d. we really appreciate feedback. one small point however(mr country music alive), is that we all have a love of country music but, the lovly thing about music is that its ever changing, so to do straight copies of hank and rodney crowell songs would be tame and certainly not what they would of liked.hank explored boundaries in his music and life and there aint nothin wrong with our tribute.i wonder do you play and sing? i hear strained sounds of blanket on the ground echoing through my nitemares all done in a glitterball rebel flagged decked hall somewhere in bognor! yes we too aint no genuine cowboys, difference is we dont pretend to be. anyway c.d baby hope you continue to promote diverse music in your own great style many thanks. martin. p.s please print this.

got sent a copy of this by a friend,we run a country music magazine. i love country (obviously) but i also listen to lots of different music, i just dont know whether this c.d is playing homage to country or just playing with it.the pedal steel is great (as is all the musicianship) but i feel country should be sung not shouted, if messrs crowel, willams and haggard had intended their songs to be rock n roll they would of written them like that. i may be old fashioned but i think this c.d has missed the beauty of laid back country.i think their other stuff is great and that perhaps that is where their strength lies. good rock n roll band but leave the country alone.

what a site!!! thank you for introducing me to great diverse music c.d baby. back to the c.d its good i agree with most of what previous reviewers have said ,but the best track by far is "im so lonesome" you can hear pain in every note sung, this guy obviously has lived (and loved and lost)and loves hank, the guitars and rythm are so sympathetic to the lyrics pain that it made me weep.2nd favorite is long shot i dont understand a word of it but love its bass and drum whack. thank you thank you c.d baby another winner.

didnt like it that much to begin with but "dirty" played it till my ears fell off and i kinda get it now (that and the fact shes got a .48 held to my head)she thinks the singer is a master, i think that the guitars are as good as you can get anywhere outside of the delta or here in the south,it grows on you man.my man stevo says the bass and rythm sec is shit hot and hes a proffesional drummer so i guess it must be o.k. they keep my chick from playin hip hop so they are fine by me.
