Album Notes

Afterimage is not an album in the strict sense of the word, but rather a collection of tracks released on cassette and vinyl between 1987 and 1995. The story of Canada is a story of passion and courage, embracing a musical style that, unfortunately was yet to be understood in Italy. Fortunately, today times have changed and this music has found its place – so it seems appropriate to release the output of this underappreciated band, Canada. Canada were (it would be appropriate to use the present tense as music transcends time) three italian musicians in the mid 80s that dreamt of blending the technique of progressive rock with a more accessible AOR sound. The critics take notice as the blend seems to work, but the Italian public was not prepared for such forward looking music that transcended the currently accepted genres. The group sees many members come and go - among the original members only Massimo Cillo [keyboards, bass, voice, composer] remains throughout the band’s history – but manages to produce a number of demos. They are included in 1989 on the “Surgery of Power” comp with “Don’t Throw Your Heart” but fail to put out a full length of their own, even when they decided to record songs in their native Italian. This is why Andromeda Relix and Massimo Cillo decided to collaborate to release, fully remastered, the fruits of this creative band. The result, Afterimage, can be immediately recognized by the cover illustration, and enjoyed by lovers of progressive pop rock. In 2010 the band started working on new material that might see them sound more up-to-date and perhaps going for a more prog orientated style.
