Album Notes

Born just outside of Memphis, Tennessee, vocalist and composer Candice Ivory followed in the footsteps of countless musical legends by getting her start singing on Beale Street. By the time she had graduated from high school, Ivory had become a late-night icon on the historic street performing with the jam-band CYC. It was Ivory's passion and dedication for not just blues, funk and rock but also jazz that secured her spot in Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead Program in 2000 and ultimately prompted her to move to New York City to further her career in 2001. The relationships Ivory formed in the Big Apple led to the release of her debut album path - undefined in November of 2003. Met with unanimous critical acclaim, path - undefined was praised as one of the top five local releases of 2003 by The Commercial Appeal of Memphis. The subsequent standing-room-only performances delivered by Ivory proved she is a rapidly rising talent that would not go unrecognized. Now, less than six months after the release of path - undefined, Candice Ivory is set to unveil another full-length project of original material. Backed by path - undefined co-producer and guitarist Aaron Nevezie, bassist John Davis, and drummer Dave Mason - collectively New York City's The Economy Band - along with longtime sideman saxophonist Eric Mullins and other special guests, Ivory's next delivery promises to thrill.

When I poped this disc into the player, I was shocked - shocked at the collective momentum of the tracks. Each one tells a heartfelt story drawn from Ivory's personal life; experiences that we all can relate to in some shape or form. The soulful bliss and musical creativity is gripping. This CD comes highly recommended; I only wish that I could see her live. (also recommended: Akil Dasan)
