Album Notes

26 letters! 26 animals! 26 songs!

It took two years and seventeen writers and performers to create this beast (no pun intended). When I decided to start this project I already had an Aardvark, Bee and Cow song, plus a few instrumentals that become animal songs. I assigned a few "letters" to friends for lyrics, music or both. Then I started in on the rest, grabbing folks as I could to help write or record something. The songs run from pop to rock to punk to weirdness and back again. Matrika means "letters" in Sanskrit.

Recorded on ADAT in a bedroom in San Francisco and in a spare room in Oakland, CA. Mixed by me, Scott Greiner and Theo Cedar. Mastered by Dan Rathbun at Polymorph.

I hope you enjoy it!

Charming
author: The Almighty Doer of Stuff
This album is charming, funny, somewhat educational (but not too much), and thoroughly fun to listen to. It features a range of styles and is often psychedelic. It's not going to go down in history as one of the best albums ever (The lyrics are often cheesy, although probably intentionally, and the singing isn't great) but it's enjoyable throughout.
