notes

Cleveland, Ohio -- Who'd have thought this misguided bunch of bleary-eyed Cleveland boys could wrangle the resources to record a second album so soon? Riding on the heels of their successful first release, Girls, Cars & Smoke-Filled Bars, The Cap Gun Cowboys are unleashing all-new offbeat, beer-soaked country-tinged tunes on the world with their second Rust Belt Recordings cd-Atomic Horsepower (street date: Saturday, May 21, 2005).

Once again recorded at the rock n' roll capital's own Tall Dog Studios, this all-analog-recorded second effort from the alt-country quartet was then shipped clear across the United States of America to be mastered by a master--none other than Austin's Jim Wilson (Yes Mastering). The time, the investment and the UPS costs incurred were well worth it. The group's sound has matured and this clear, musically upbeat, energetic album captures that essence, pours it into a shot glass and slides it right down the bar without spilling a drop.

Formed in 2000, the band features Greg Yanito on vocals and electric guitars, Phil Verhoef on vocals, acoustic guitars, trombone, Mark Loncarevic on electric bass and Todd Nelson (formerly of Ace and the Ragers) on drums and percussion. Logging plenty of miles on the odometer from Chicago to Baltimore, New York to Tennesee, the group has shared the stage with many national Americana artists such as Wayne "The Train" Hancock, Big Sandy and His Fly Rite Boys, Deke Dickerson & the Ecco-Fonics, Hank Williams III, Commander Cody, David Allen Coe, Devil in A Woodpile, Rex Hobart, and Lee Rocker, and also with rockabilly legends Jack Earls and Johnny Powers.

Cap Gun fans will notice several elements that set Atomic Horsepower apart from the first album including an instrumental track, new originals penned by Yanito and Verhoef, an eclectic smattering of cool covers that includes a Yiddish polka, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen," amazing retro artwork by L.T. Myers and lively musical guest appearances by Kevin Hegedus (guitar) and Megan Palmer (violin).

"We wanted to try and bottle the live performance vibe so it could be uncorked and shared with others," says the band's leader, Yanito. "We hope this album takes on a life of its own beyond the barroom and the late night shows."
