Album Notes

Madison's own Capitol City Band(CCB), founded in 1969 by the late Dr. Elmer Ziegler, is one of the premier concert bands in Wisconsin. Conducted by Jim Latimer since 1981, the band is comprised of 24 professional musicians from the greater Madison WI area and is affiliated with AFofM Local 166. The main mission is to play free summer concerts-in-the-park, now a Madison tradition. The band can be seen and heard every Thursday evening throughout the summer months at the beautiful Rennebohm Park in Madison, officially home of the Capitol City Band, thanks to a resolution by the City Council. Concerts last one hour and include all types of music from classical to jazz, marches to overtures, songs to contemporary, waltzes to polkas and, of course, the ever-looked-forward-to encore of the conductor's choosing. A professional singer from the community and an instrumental soloist from within the band are featured at each concert.
Conductor, Jim Latimer is professor emeritus from the UW-Madison School of Music where he was head of the percussion studies department and director of the UW-Percussion Ensemble (UWPE) for thirty-one years. He was timpanist with the Madison Symphony from 1968 until his retirement in 1999. Of music, Jim says "we love what we do. Music says it all, it heals, soothes, and expresses the soul of humanity. It reminds us of who we are, where we are and where we are going."
Henry Buchanan of Coeur d'Alene ID says, "the best thing about visiting Madison WI in the summertime is the Capitol City Band." Several visitors from Florida say "it's (CCB) the reason we come to Madison in the summertime."
