Album Notes

Captain Somebody is improvisation based trio composed of three very active and in demand musicians, all based in Philadelphia. This disc is a snap shot of what were weekly sessions in which these three musicians would explore the art of improvisation. None of the material here was written or discussed before recording.

In addition to being a current member of reggae artist Matisyahu's band, bassist Jason Fraticelli is also a member of Philly based bands As Human, Jason Fraticelli & The Wet Dreams, Oudblues, Taylor McFerrin and The Cell Theory, Leana Song, and Sinking Ship. Jason has also played with Billy Martin, Cyro Baptista, Bobby McFerrin, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, and the Benevento Russo Duo.
Neil Podgurski can be seen and heard playing in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. venues regularly with top American artists. In addition to fronting his own band, New Fire, Neil regularly plays with Saxophonist Tim Warfield. Neil has also performed with Mickey Roker, the late Arthur Harper, Larry Mckenna, Frank Tibiri, George Garzone, David Schnitter, the late Jimmy Oliver, Eric Alexander, the late Dennis Charles, Joe Cambers, the late Arnie Lawrence, Byron Landham, and Robert Landham.
Since moving east from St. Louis in 1995, Doug Hirlinger has been deeply entrenched in music scenes both in New York City and most recently in Philadelphia. Although best known as drummer and composer in the jazz and improvisation world, he has also played roles such as electronic music maker, remixer, and educator. Doug has performed throughout the United States and Europe and presently enjoys working regularly with trio Base3 (Tim Motzer & Barry Meehan), an additional trio with Matt Mitchell and Tarus Mateen, and works consistently as a freelance drummer.

Each CD from this limited addition run comes with hand made packaging and features, as album art, high quality prints of paintings by Summer Yates as well as hand labeled discs by a Philadelphia artist who wish to remain anonymous.
