notes

"...they fit neatly into that funky southern blues-rock vein--but their original songs, especially "Three Rivers Point," which would sound fine on any Gov't Mule album, are outstanding and set them apart from many other
similarly accomplished bands." (Mick Skidmore, Relix Magazine)

"...It's most likely a safe move to add Captain Soularcat to the growing list of young bands helping to put Georgia on the map (once again) as a musical hotspot..." (Mark Pantsari, The Post and Courier,Charleston SC)

"Captain Soularcat's new release, THREE RIVERS POINT, is a combination of intimate portraits and epic tunes, spanning the inner trappings of the human experience and the vast expanses of the American landscape. The songs are deep in blues, Southern Jam and roots groove." - Dean Poling, Valdosta Daily News 2004

"..(from) Rome GA, Captain Soularcat brings a wildly energetic and soulful southern rock to the desert. Homegrown sounds with a bluesy soul...one hard rocking band, best experienced live and in person." (Steve Brown/Desert Post Weekly/Joshua Tree, California)

I took a chance, and bought this cd without hearing anything off it before. Man, am I glad I did!! Beginning to end, there isn't one bad song.I would recommend "Three River's Point" to anyone who likes Allman Bros., Gov't Mule, Panic, etc. It blows me away and I'm eagerly awaiting news of a new one by these guy's!

  • Excellent CD. I was more than impressed.

Great CD from beginning to end. I heard Highr Mound on Sirius and bought the CD right after the song ended. Track 3 - Three Rivers Point is another classic. Would love to go see these guys live. I hope they come around to the midwest soon.

  • Better than expected
    author: Felix

This CD was better than expected. Like other reviewers, I heard them on Sirius Radio and liked "Higher Mound." I wasn't expecting too much from the other songs since most smaller bands put out their best song and it turns out to be the only good song. However, the whole CD was very good.

  • "NEW" Southern Rock

The CD sounds great. I became interested b/c of hearing the song "Higher Mound" on Sirius radio - was not dissapointed with the rest of the album.

  • Steeped in the Classics

The smooth slide and fantastic Piano on Higher Mound really get the record going. The mixing was at times great and at times not so great. You never seem to be able to hear the vocals and when you can they are hard to understand. Added Percusion is a nice and the bass and drums work well with each other during the whole recording. Overall I give the songs 3 stars for originality and artistic content. 3 stars for the fantastic musicianship and 2 stars for the recording and production. A great first record. I cannot wait to hear more! Ivan Untez Poor Martin's Almanac

Capt. Soularcat takes you back to the true southern roots of rok and roll. This is a must have for fans of deep gritty southern jams.

  • Superb Southern rock with first-rate material and great improv

Excellent Southern rock effort- Fine production by Rev. Jeff of BGUG (though I note that credit is shared with the band), whose musical influence also shows to good effect (members of BGUG guest)...solid vocals somewhat reminiscent of WSP/Warren Haynes/Jimmy Dewar (of Stone the Crows and Trower fame)... the double-guitar-driven jams are particularly good, and, combined with good keyboard (particularly organ)and bass support/interaction, put me in mind of the Allmans and ARU crossed with Procol Harum or (again) Stone the Crows...the percussion is also generally outstanding, and lends a New Monsoonish worldbeat texture to the music at times...all in all, highly recommended to fans of this genre...
