Album Notes

This time out the band kicks into high gear with a fuller production and the substantial assistance of collaborators Chris Stamey (mixing) and Müller from the band The Mumlers (recording). The songs on Heart’s Delight reveal a confident and accomplished band that is both broadening its musical palette and refining its natural strengths.

Though the band recorded the album in the laid-back comfort of Müller’s hundred-year-old San José bungalow, working with Chris Stamey on the album’s mix worked to the advantage of the album’s finished sound. Stamey’s own music, as well as his previous work with songwriters like Ryan Adams and Alejandro Escovedo, made him a natural choice for Careless Hearts. Still, the band didn’t anticipate just how well the long-distance collaboration would work. What began as consultation evolved into participation, with Stamey adding organ parts and backing vocals when the spirit moved him. The resulting album is an engaging and polished set of tunes that still feels relaxed, direct, and genuine.
