Album Notes

With a spring in her step and a voice like a bell, Hotsi Kotsi will cast down her spell. A performer with a candy box full of styles, Carey Kotsionis possesses a vocabulary of songwriting from another era. Mixing jazz, blues, country, and pop, Kotsionis creates a sound woven together by her dynamite voice.

After going solo from Nashville darling duo, The Sways, and having supported Bobby Bare Jr's, "Young Criminals Starvation League", Kotsionis ventured into the studio during summer of 2003, cranking out material for a full length, solo project.

"The Magic Cowboy Boots EP" is a sampler of recordings not appearing on the upcoming album. Kotsionis' chameleon like ability is apparent and the accompanying production follows suit, ranging from orchestrated lounge arrangement to lo-fi, live to four track country ballad.

Currently supporting B.B. Jr's "Young Criminals" on the road, Kotsionis is performing across North America this fall and finishes production on the full length this winter. Check out "The Magic Cowboy Boots EP" and keep your ears out for more from this lovely and powerful voice.

REVIEWS

fun, witty, engaging songs from a unique and lovely voice
author: Rhett
The variety of styles offered on this CD demonstrates Kotsionis's musical versatility. But perhaps even more engaging is her ability to touch on so many emotions in just five songs, from the longing of Don't Ask Me to the pure joy of the title track, Kotsionis proves herself a master of knowing when to flip the coin from pain to pleasure. What lyrics. What a voice. Three words can summarize my response: more, please, more.

Highly recommend this CD

We saw Carey perform while out with Bobby Bare Jr. In my opinion she stole the show. So much so we searched and found her CD. The songs are all uniquely different but she has the ability to pull you in with her vocal stylings. This CD shows the large range she has to offer. The songs drip with heart felt emotion or whimsy (Magic Cowboy Boots). Really enjoy all the tracks and give this CD a hugh thumbs up!

Great EP.

Carey Kotsionis displays raw vocal talent that conveys her utmost dedication to the proper deliverance of each track. Of the five tracks, the haunting "Don't Ask Me" will quickly become your favorite with its nearly dizzying lethargic thump of a beat. Much more upbeat and dripping with Nashville pride is the album's title track, "Magic Cowboy Boots," on which Kotsionis fuses her lyrical genius with her expert knowledge of her vocal capabilities. "Makes Me So" is a breezy jazz piece, while "Devil May Come" sports a lulling, repentant quality that makes it a most necessary evil. "Long Long Time" starts the EP off on a good note as well. Carey Kotsionis not only succeeds crossing genres on this five-track EP--she works to redefine them. I definitely recommend it. --Matt

She's awesome. She's somehow escaped national attention. She needs another album. I'm very pleased and plan to share this wonderful artist I've discovered with everyone I know. I only wish there were more songs. :0)
