Blurt is soulful, heartfelt and deeply moving. Lusciously filled with personal stories of love, loss and perseverance, it is exactly what a great album should be. Carey's passion for music shines through and I look forward to hearing more from her in the future.

Great record! An eclectic mix of songs! Love 'Talk Radio." Can really hear a folk/Joni Mitchell influence a la "Last Time I Saw Richard" mixed with a punch of polished vocals to make for a unique debut!

A pretty voice effortlessly silking out melancholy songs
Ever been in a mood and you want to listen to something, something not among the hundreds of tunes you already have and have already heard hundreds of times? I don't know about you, but at these moments, I quickly clickety-click on random buttons. Usually not that much catches my ear, especially lately--and especially not female. However the other day I did just that, and I found I had paused. What a pretty voice effortlessly silking out melancholy songs. I didn't look. I tried to place it. Clear and expressive like Bonnie Raitt singing “You," or because of the captivating breezes of breath Nora Jones singing “Come Away with Me” to her lonesome piano. I was surprised. It belongs to Carey Yaruss. I like music which is unfettered, evokes a mood, has lyrics that make sense and can be understood when sung and which are sung in rich, soothing notes. Carey does all of that. One song that really stood out is “Talk Radio.” This is a true gem. I couldn't stop listening to it. Worthy of checking out.

Feel the hurt in "blurt."
Carey Yaruss follows up her debut album of covers with a nearly all original tour de force! The only one she didn't write is Paul Simon's "I Am a Rock," which she delivers in a haunting a capella. There are a number of songs about dealing with life and relationships, and Carey shows a maturity beyond her years. Her backup band is very talented as well. I recommend this CD heartily!

LOVE IT!
I love this album!! Carey's voice is beautiful and strong and her songwriting is honest. Carey weaves a tale of a complex young lady who is happy being who she is and where she is and yet still strives to reach her goals. She is strong and independent and yet she has a tender heart. There is something for everyone on this album. My personal favorite is "Home" but every song on this album has a special place in my heart. Great job Carey!!!

a nice blend
After a couple decades of acts that blended different genres in either a discordant manner (Red Hot Chili Peppers) or a very-ironic manner (lots of indie-folk stuff), this is lovely and smooth fusion of country, jazz, and rock elements that's pleasant in the way that a classy evening in Manhattan might be for visitors from Wyoming. It's so nice! And the "I Am a Rock" cover manages to sound like an original composition that doesn't merely make one long for the original, as most covers do. If this is a glimpse of the cabaret and crooner sounds of the fledgling century, I have been rewarded for not killing myself during the rap-metal era.

A carefully crafted Blurt
Sometimes deeply moving and often quaintly playful, Blurt is a collection of songs clearly written from the heart. Among my favorites are "Talk Radio", a sadly beautiful ballad, strung together with an elegant piano line and a wonderfully melodious stream-of-consciousness; the driving wake-up-call of "Spring"; the gospelly uplifting "Home"; and the bouncy, honest, and empowering title-track, "Blurt". Carey Yaruss's Blurt has become a welcome addition to my music collection!
