Caribbean Steel was founded by band leader/Steel Drummer/Percussionist, Nico Gutierrez. Nico G. was born in N.Y.C. to Wayne Gutierrez, a professional show drummer and has been playing drumset since he was 9 yrs old. His passion for world music has led him to study Afro-Cuban Percussion including Folklore and Popular Rhythms as well as Brazilian and West African Styles of Drumming. Nico G. has studied percussion with Regino Jimenez, Michael Spiro, Mark Lamson, Poncho Sanchez, and Francisco Aguabella.
