The guitar player Ronaldo Freitas, also known as Carioca, has been working as a performer, teacher, and arranger for more than thirty years. Born in Rio de Janeiro, his most recent albums have focused on translating Brazilian rhythms and dances into instrumental chamber music without losing the soul and humor at the heart of the music. Carioca has toured the world for over 15 years with his distinct brand of jazz, combining elements of Brazilian folkloric music, modern rhythms, and nuances of other styles, all delivered through an exhilarating instrumental palette.
In this fantastic DVD, Carioca performs with his Trio which includes acclaimed Brazilian percussionist Luiz Guello and world-class Greek cellist Dimos Goudaroulis. The DVD includes compositions from Carioca's last two CDs, Danças Brasileiras and Uirapuru, which draw inspiration from mystical Amazonia and Brazilian dance.
