Hi! I'm Carla Lynne Hall.

The first time I heard "My First Child", this tender lullaby was performed by my friend, Nil Lara (Metro Blue/Blue Note artist). Armed with nothing but a guitar and these lyrics, he beautifully told the story of the bond between a mother and her unborn child. Not even a father himself, he wrote the song right after a friend gave birth. Needless to say, I was blown away by his lyrics. His songwriting had already made me a fan, but the sensitivity he expressed in this song took my admiration to another level.

I didn't have children either, yet I immediately added "My First Child" to my set list. The song was that powerful to me:

I have a son, growing inside
I've seen the response of God in me, coming to life
Kicking me strong, draining my blood
You're my first child, I'll show you no harm
I'll teach you my love

People have been requesting this song for years now, and I'm proud to have a new recorded version to share with friends. This recording will be on my upcoming CD, Supernova, but the single is available now to give as a gift for any of the mothers in your life.

I am dedicating this version of "My First Child" to the memory of my mom, Ella Mae Hall Woolfolk. Lovingly known as "Miss W" by the neighborhood kids, she was (and is) a wonderful lady who could cook and dance like nobody's business. To further honor my mom, I am pledging a dollar from each sale of this single to the March of Dimes.
