Album Notes

If you enjoy offbeat humor and generally wacky, lively original songs, check out this CD from Professional Smart Aleck Carla Ulbrich.
Her young fans have nicknamed her "Weird Gal" (an homage to Weird Al).

Carla's 2nd CD is live in concert. It features "I Have to Kill You now" (#5 most requested song twice in 2003 on the Dr. Demento show), "The Wedgie," "The Guy who Changes the Light Bulbs" (both also in the Funny Five on Dr Demento), advice on how to build a log cabin and how to pronounce Carla's name, Chicken Sandwiches, a Love Triangle, a rundown on public education in South Carolina, and a death-threat ballad; all the important topics are covered here.

DJs Otto Bost of WDIY, Paul Porzio of WEBR, and Larry Hoyt of WAER all named this disc among their favorite CDs of 2003.

For 10 years, Carla toured almost non-stop, year-round. She has appeared on numerous stages, radio stations, colleges, science fiction and medical conventions, company holiday parties, TV shows and patches of grass, including the South Florida Folk Festival, the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS), PAX TV, the BBC, USA TV network, Sirius XM Radio, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (voted "most wanted" 2004), Eddie's Attic, and the Bluebird Cafe. She still tours, but not non-stop.

Carla has taught guitar at several colleges and the National Guitar Workshop. She has worked with Modern Man, Bob Malone, What I Like About Jew (Now called Jewmongous) and opened for Cheryl Wheeler, Vance Gilbert, Rev. Billy C Wirtz, The Austin Lounge Lizards, and Lucy Kaplansky. Carla was also a member of the trio Girls Gone Funny for 2 years.

This CD contains 8 previously unreleased songs, 2 previously unreleased instrumentals and 2 previously released songs (new versions).

Fitting title - with lots of great/awful puns

If you like humurous satire with a sarcastic undertone, you'll probably love this one. The live aspect of it adds a great deal for me. I always loved these kinds of shows in college.

Deft Wise-acher Packages Vulnerability in Sarcastic Gift Wrap

Can we talk? That depends...can YOU listen? If so, listen to this collection and discover a humorous way of looking at some of life's most painful moments. If you laugh, you'll be laughing at yourself, wondering how Carla could possibly know your dark, humorous side. She gets four stars because bigger budgets will give her superior production (not to mention a bigger ego) and--as Carla might say--if I give her Five Stars she'll stop getting better. Buy it now in bulk for Christmas presents.

More than I expected. Such a pleasure to listen to.

Carla's music shows that being a smart aleck isn't necessarily a bad thing. In her own words she's a humane society for song topics. Who do you know can write a song about wedgies and toasted chicken sandwiches? Carla can and does it masterfully. The guitar solos are tremendous. She's a gifted songwriter and musician. This CD is a pleasure to listen to from beginning to end. It has a great variety of songs that are sure to please just about everyone. My daughter and I are both hooked!
