Original album Liner notes,

When I first went on the road to play trumpet with Maynard Ferguson for a short tour in '93 I meet Ron Oswanski (Organ), and immediately enjoyed his playing and great sense of humor. Soon after that I started to book some weekly gigs in Long Island, NY with a quartet called Carl Fischer Company, with Ron on piano. Ron mentioned to me that he had bought an organ and brought it over to my apartment before a gig, and man, was I impressed! He swung so hard, and I was amazed how he could push the harmonic structure by playing the left hand bass. Ron is really just a natural with that instrument."

Fast- forward another seven years to 2000 and I was off from Maynard's band again and was looking to book Ron and me on some gigs. Ron then introduced me to guitar player and writer Jeff Barone who had some great tunes and was cool just to get together and play. Soon after meeting Jeff, I met Brian Wolfe (Drummer). He plays all the different grooves that always swing, plus he can play great straight-ahead with the best of them. He seemed perfect for the band, plus he has such a positive vibe personally and musically. Brian told me then - "Look out... now you have a band on your hands"!! That made up the original core of the Ensemble."

Jeff ended up going out on the road for a year, and I wanted to get a horn player, so I called my man Jon Scarpulla, who I've always dug playing and hanging with. Jon has a knack for always playing the right things with a big sound and always full of soul. The last link for the band was guitarist Tom Gaurna, who has been on the NY scene for a while tearing it up. I really think he plays off of Ron very nicely and has brought a lot to the musical table."

"Throughout the years I have made many attempts to land that "great record deal," but the business has always seemed to deal with everything except the music. It has been a real struggle to try to deal with all of the politics, so I said "forget it - I'll do it myself."

"So, here it is my first solo CD with a group of friends who also happen to be great musicians. I can't tell you what an honor it has been to me to have these men play together with me. I am blessed, thanks guys."

Peace,

Carl Fischer- 2003.
