To call Larry Carlton a musical legend would be a bit of an understatement. He has 16 Grammy nominations with 3 wins. He has recorded 26 albums of his own and performed on over 100 albums that have gone gold or platinum. Carlton was recently awarded Guitar Player magazine\'s “Lifetime Achievement Award.” His solo on Steely Dan\'s “Kid Charlemagne” was listed as one of Rolling Stone\'s “100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time,” with the note that, “It\'s so complex, it\'s a song in its own right.” With thousands of studio sessions to his credit, it would take more room than we have to list this guitar-god\'s résume. It would also probably take quite a while to list all of Carlton\'s solo hits, but his GREATEST HITS RERECORDED is a start. As Carlton himself states, “My decision to re-record my greatest hits came from a place of gratitude – for my career and to my loyal fans. I\'ve grown so much as an artist, I thought it would be really fun to breath new life and spirit into these, now classic songs.” Each song stands the test of time and beyond, with the added bonus of a brand new track, “All In Good Time.” Instantly recognizable, Carlton\'s crisp, clean guitar chords convey joy and enchantment throughout a captivating melody. With a legacy like his, it\'s a continuing pleasure to know that Larry Carlton not only has his past for us to enjoy, but that he still has a few tricks up his sleeve.

I'm a keen guitarist with a large number of guitar based recordings covering many styles and genre's.
My background is old schoolrock, classical and jazz/bebop. I have been trying to find the right blend of all these ingredients for some time, and recently rediscovered LC's "Strikes" on vinyl hiding in my collection. This prompted me to look for a collection of his "hits" but with a more modern sound and production. This CD captures it all. The playing is terrific, LC's touch is wonderful and the choice of tunes is spot on for me - a good blend of light, space, energy, feel etc. It is good to hear musicians actually making music, enjoying themselves, and playing musically in this world of "instant gratification,
music by numbers,look-at-me" which fill the shelves of most CD shops (I'm a Brit!).
For the sake of comparison, I also have a lot of Fourplay in my collection. Thoroughly enjoyable music, but for me, LC's playing has a bit more bite to it and is more musical. As much as I enjoy Lee Ritenour's playing and undoubted skill, I prefer LC as I think he is more musical.
I had been searching for this CD for some time and CD Baby was the only place I could get it. Their service was prompt, humourous, and fun. The CD arrived surprisingly quickly bearing in mind that I'm in the UK, even beating some local online stores! I will be back!
