The Great Pacific Northwest holds one of today's great hidden talents. Carl Tosten is a guitar player's guitar player. I have always been a huge fan of Carl's guitar but Carl has more than that to offer.
His songwriting and singing skills are some of the best in the profession. Carl's new album will take you to places you want to go. His songs are the songs you wish you could have written. Carl weaves a web of writing, singing, and playing that will captivate the most jaded of listeners. In this day of multitracking and recording wizardry it's hard to see the scope of Carl's ability.
Do yourself a favor. Look for Carl's live performances. You will see a unique style that takes vocal accompaniment to a whole new level. Carl's rhythmic, percussive guitar style must be seen to be fully appreciated. Others have tried to describe Carl's talent so I won't try. Tosten is known for his masterful acoustic guitar fingerstyle compositions as well as his poetic, introspective lyrics. He has a passion for guitars that has made him an expert on the instrument and put him at the forefront of the acoustic music scene. He has performed extensively throughout the U.S. and in Europe playing concerts, coffee houses, corporate and private events, as well as opening for Grammy award winners Tingstad & Rumble. Along with having endorsements with several major music manufacturers, Tosten has toured the U.S. as a clinician for Gibson Guitars Acoustic division.

Carl's style is the culmination of years of eclectic listening. He grew up in Washington State and started playing guitar in 1974 at age 11. For years his playing centered around the electric guitar, performing with various groups in diverse styles ranging from country to rock to jazz. He began devoting himself to the acoustic guitar in 1994, and now creates masterful acoustic fingerstyle compositions which combine alternate tunings, multiple capos, percussive body slaps
and right-hand tapping. He plays with an intense energy that amazes audiences and inspires fellow guitarists.

While Carl has spent years perfecting his unique and expressive guitar style, his current focus is on songwriting. His warm and passionate voice eloquently couples his poetic lyrics and guitar - a combination that demands to be heard and has something to say. His songs paint emotional landscapes - from love lost and found to his introspective and thoughtful views on society, life and the complexities of living.

    I have purchased his other cds and loved his guitar playing and the limited amount of vocals i heard. But this new cd with all vocals and his unmistakable guitar are more than outstanding. Lyrics that make sense and paint pictures for the mind, guitar parts that fill in all the blank spots creating the fire behind the stories. I listen to it all the time and have taken all my other cds and shelved them.
