Album Notes

The Carnival Band, based out of East Vancouver, Canada, performed with anywhere from a half dozen to two dozen members blending reggae, samba, jazz, ska, calypso, klezmer, and funk, with a plethora of horns, bass, guitar, violin, and various percussion.

Members ranged in age from 8 to 62, and were born in Newfoundland, Manitoba, Ontario, Japan, Holland, England, Germany, Mongolia, the States, Mexico, Vietnam, France, and East Vanouver.

First organized by Dan Vie in 1997, in 1999 Marcos X (Ngoma, Shazzam, Ache Brasil, Junglemilk) became musical director. Ross Barrett (Mock Duck) joined in 1999 as well. In 2006, Dan left the group with the birth of his first child. One of the youngest members, Devon 8, began managing the group and booked tours through New England, Germany, England, France, Spain, and even Shanghai, China.

In the summer of 2007, after the second European tour, most of the original members of the group (including Marcos X, Devon 8, Vicki Rae, Vern Clare, Corinne and Jenn) stopped performing for the band to pursue other interests.
