Album Notes

Carnival Knowledge began when bassist and contra dancer Jeff Hersk decided it would be cool to draft some hot Nashville musicians to play improvised music for contra dances. The result was a quintet that traveled all over the Southeast and Midwest playing dances, dance festivals, and concerts.

The instruments, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, dobro, and upright bass, blend to form a full rich sound. The players are all veteran Nashville session players. The repertoire draws from a wide variety of sources, from traditional old-time reels to Irish Jigs to jazz composers Duke Ellington and Horace Silver. It's great music for sitting and listening, or for kicking off your shoes and dancing around the room.

A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing

This is a great CD. I've never been to a contra dance but couldn't help tapping my foot or hand to keep time. Nice selections and combinations of songs other than you would expect. I have to admit that I was biased toward liking this CD even before I listened to it, since my uncle is Mike Baugh, who plays the banjo and madolin on this CD. Really glad I bought it and love to play it often.
