ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Carol Arblaster's music is genuine. The clarity and lyric quality of her mezzo-soprano combined with her masterful harp playing form a single voice which communicate a heartfelt devotion which only her music can express.

The music of Brendan Soul is unified in its purpose and vision. The text is inspired by the lives of the celtic saints like St. Brendan, St. Columba, and St. David. The stories of their lives have formed the context from which Carol has composed the pieces on Brendan Soul.
The arrangements on Brendan Soul are fundamentally lyrical and are supported by a lush underpinning of harmony and rhythm. Though united in message, each piece has an individual character. Carol Arblaster has given every song its own air. Brendan Soul has an incredible dynamic range; some songs are incredibly wide in scope boasting accompaniment of instruments including uillean pipes, whistle, violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, bass, and an array of percussion. Others are more intimate and feature Carol exclusively. The result is a musical journey which will carry you through highs and lows to the furthest corners of the British Isles.

Brendan Soul' features many distinguished musicians including Troy Donockley on the uillean pipes who has performed with Maddy Prior, and Maire Brennan (Clannad).
This was recorded and produced by Dave Bankhead at Moonstone Studios in Southern England.

Inpirational celtic music bound lift your spirit.
"Brendan Soul: A Celtic Companion" is a great CD. This celtic-inspired music written by Carol herself proves to be a CD for all-occasions. Whether played in your car or listened to meditatively, Carol's delicate harp playing and majestic voice are bound to lift your spirit. Her arrangements boast an array of celtic instruments performed by well-respected musicians from the British Isles and America and the sometimes Loreena McKennit-esque sounds will envelop you and transport you to another place and time. Brendan Soul's title track opens in a majestic call played by an irish whistle, while the haunting "Fallen Abbey" will give you chills. Brendan Soul: A Celtic Companion is a truly dynamic recording. Carol Arblaster once again proves herself to be a skilled performer and uniquely intuitive composer.
