What Reviewers are saying about Caroline Aiken’s latest CD, “Are We There Yet Mama?”

"Aiken's guitar work is astonishing, especially as much of it is on 12 strings...making this disc required listening for anyone who thinks s/he plays the blues or owns a 12 string. ...This is a great record, far more enjoyable than the big-label fodder"
- Tom Petersen, Victory Review Magazine, Seattle Washington, Dec 2005

“Caroline Aiken, often sighted as one of the cornerstones of the Decatur folk movement, has long been at the forefront of modern folk and acoustic expression, ... and her soothing, fine wood-grain voice purrs with a youthful innocence one minute, then growls like a wise old blue singer the next, marking each song with her trademark, time-honed stamp of quality...”
- Lee Valentine Smith, Creative Loafing Magazine

"Caroline Aiken is poised to be a radio 'break-out' artist during the upcoming year! Her new CD "Are We There Yet, Mama?" is a perfect mix of superb songwriting, stellar musicianship and vocal stylings. With this CD, Caroline Aiken continues her association with artists like Bonnie Raitt and the Indigo Girls in an exclusive singer/songwriter/performer collective!"
- Norm Prusslin, President
Intercollegiate Broadcasting System/National College Radio Station Organization

“Anyone who’s ever heard the sultry, bluesy voice of Caroline Aiken knows she’s the real deal. She infuses each song with true grit and years of performing experience, sanding down the rough edges just a little with her soft Southern drawl.”
- Mare Wakefield, DIY Salute, Performing Songwriter Magazine

“Caroline tears her 12 string a whole new consciousness”.
Jef Jaisun - Blue Suede News

  • One's all it takes.

I'd never heard of her. Then she showed up at Walter Hyatt's tribute concert, played one song and walked off. That's all it took. I came home that night and ordered the CD. You won't be disappointed.

  • sparkling addition to my collection
    author: Wade Hanson

The song that hooked me was Turtle Dove, an acapella song, heard on the radio. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I located Caroline's music here and discovered what kind of guitar player she is, also...WOW! She is one of those people who make the search for great music such a sweet treat.

  • bluesy, artfully hits heart, superb guitar

bluesy voice, artfully wraps around your ears, superb guitar playing, rustic and heartfelt emotion, great music to get lost in the words.

  • One to Add to the Collection
    author: Greg

I bought this after hearing the title cut on the local folk station. Most of the time when I buy a CD based on one song I end up let down, but this was a real treat. Several of the reviewers have mentioned the guitar is great and her voice has an amazing quality that really touches you. However, I would also point out that a few of the cuts have great harp (harmonica) playing and that her voice and guitar style really pull it all together. We don't see much of that any more. In the end, this is a CD that is well worth the investment - you will listen to it for years to come.

  • Powerful and Spiritually invoked Rhythm & Blues.
    author: John Charles Griffin

Caroline's most recent cd radiates a spiritually invoked sense of comforting harmonies, superb guitar and rhythm accompaniment, story telling lyrics, and a soulful feeling of love and warmth. The title song ARE WE THERE YET MAMA takes every astute listener back to clear memories of distant, nostalgic early childhood... deja vu musical night flight across romantic roots of rural America.

  • Consistently awesome!
    author: Dave Lambeth

Hard to believe, but Caroline just keeps getting better and better! A permanent 5 star rating on the iPod. If you've never heard her, this would be a great place to start!

  • This one goes on the Desert Island List!
    author: Rebecca Troon

The Desert Island List is: Which CD's would you take if you knew you were going to be marooned on a desert island and could choose ten CD's to listen to for the rest of your life? Caroline's voice is soulful, powerful and hypnotic. Every time I sing along, I learn something new about singing.

  • Can't take it out of my Walkman!
    author: Robby Cline aka RogueRob

This has got to be Caroline's best cd ever, hands down. One superbly realized track after another, creating a eurphoric effect by the end of it, followed by an overwhelming need to hit 'play' again.

  • Amazing and wonderful as only Caroline can be!
    author: Kevin Kinsey

Blues fans looking for that rare gem - a collection of new, homegrown modern blues songs marrying beauty, sadness, and hope - look no further. This CD is, in a word, fantastic! Of all the songs, I think 'Die Happy' is my favorite. Thanks, Caroline!
