Album Notes

A Finalist in the 2003 & 2004 UK Songwriter's Competition ! The words and music are by New England composer, George Makredes, whose holiday music emphasizes the celebration of Christmas. Ten of the twelve are actually new compositions that range from bright and merry, to introspective and melancholy. Titled 'Christmas Spirit' and featuring The Carolliers, the songs are presented in a variety of orchestrations and arrangements, giving this CD a track-to-track sound one might otherwise expect from a compilation disc. Pretty much all of the emotions of Christmas are touched upon here, using a variety of pop, choral, world, spiritual and folk styles. Recorded in Boston, produced and arranged by the noted Pericles Kanaris, it succeeds in capturing the feeling of Christmas, with images of family, friends and firesides all coming to mind. 'Christmas Spirit' has been characterized as a singing Christmas card, offering fresh new holiday tunes. In fact, it's Christmas music that could very well join the regular rotation of favorites, to be played each season, as new classics. "Christmas Spirit is a joy to hear. Moreover, it is an important new work . . . Full of unusual arrangements of well-crafted songs, it is a high-quality, stylistically eclectic production" - Richard Banks, ChristmasReviews.com
